Comment

This token was engraved by Claude Balain, ordinary goldsmith merchant of the king and conductor of the Mint, living in the Galleries of the Louvre. He received 7,750 livres for the manufacture of all types of gold, silver and copper. There were purses given to Messrs. Colbert, de La Vrillère, Châteauneuf, secretaries of state; to Mr. Picon, clerk to Mr. Colbert; to Messrs. Gourvelle, Caillet, de Chaulot, to the Elected Officials, to the two deputies of the accounts and to the officers of the States. The manufacture of the two purses containing the tokens given to the Prince of Condé and to the Duke of Enghien who had presided over the States, embroidered and blazoned, cost 211 livres.
