Comment

The legend on the reverse recalls that, in 1458, the bishop of Coutances, replying on behalf of the king to Maître l'Orfèvre, ambassador of the Duke of Burgundy, who had pleaded for the Duke of Alençon, said: "It is through justice that kings reign, and were it not for the good justice of kings and princes, kingdoms and seigneuries would be nothing but larceny".
