Comment

A political movement of great importance, see the beginning of its very long article in wikipedia "The League of Patriots is the first mass party to be structured in France. This pioneer movement of French nationalism was founded on May 18, 1882 by Paul Déroulède. Initially composed of moderate republicans (such as Victor Hugo), the league, after numerous splits, supported General Boulanger. Dissolved in March 1889, the league was reborn in 1897 before the Dreyfus affair broke out. It won back Paris from the anti-Dreyfus camp but remained weakened. It therefore develops a militarism and a patriotism. Nevertheless, it quickly evolved into an organization hostile to the parliamentary republic, anti-Semitic and xenophobic.
