Originally a bowling shirt manufacturing company, King Louie expanded into building and managing alleys in 1955 when it opened its first Kansas City location at 7910 Troost Avenue, which included a cocktail lounge and restaurant. By the 1970s, King Louie owned and operated seven bowling alleys on both sides of the state line. The last one closed in 2009 and is now home to the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center.
