This stunning commemorative is a privately issued Gold Proof George T. Morgan 1876 $100 Union and is struck from 1/10 Troy oz. of .999 fine gold, based on a never minted design by Morgan. This design for George T. Morgan's proposed 1876 $100 Union was discovered during the summer of 2006 in a book of Morgan's sketches at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington.The design shows a capped Liberty seated, facing right who represents commerce. She holds an olive branch in her left hand and a scepter in the right, with stalks of wheat to her right that are wrapped in ribbon. In the background there is a sailing ship coming into a harbor with mountains behind it. The coin weighs 1/10 of an ounce and is made of .999 gold.
