Propaganda token struck to commemorate the French victory of 1857. Then governor of Algeria, General Jacques Louis Randon organized a military expedition in May 1857 in Djurdjura in Kabylia. At the beginning of July, Greater Kabylia was subjugated and Algerian resistance ceased.
