Situated on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, off the Pertuis d'Antioche, and protected from storms by the "barrier" of the islands of Ré, Oléron and Aix, the town is above all a first-rate port complex, and has been so since the 12th century. Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_RochelleFort Boyard is a fortification located on a shoal originally formed by a sandbank, called the "Longe de Boyard", which is exposed at low tide and lies between the islands of Aix to the northeast and Oléron to the southwest, with Île Madame to the southeast and Île de Ré to the north, belonging to the Charente archipelago. La Longe de Boyard is included in the land register of the commune of Île-d'Aix, in the Charente-Maritime department. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Boyard_(monument)
