The Halles centrales were located in the rue de la Vierge Noire and were inaugurated in 1874, date of the exhibition. With an area of 5000 m², two pavilions were separated by a covered street of 12 m wide.Originally, these pavilions were dedicated to trade and housed the wholesalers of the city's markets, then a wing was transformed into an entertainment area in 1893 where skating rink, shows, balls, cinema and greyhound races followed one another. In 1957, these halls were gradually destroyed to build a parking lot for the 1958 World's Fair.
