"Louis XIV died on September 1, 1715. On the following November 27-29, the elected representatives of the Burgundy States signed contracts in Paris with a metal supplier, Jean Lemercier, an engraver, Michel Reug, and a merchant specializing in the manufacture of purses, Damoiselle Boucher, for the production of 15,750 tokens. On these tokens, "there will be on one side the arms of the province with these words around COMITIA BURGUNDIAE and on the other side of the said tokens a full moon illuminating the world with these words ORBI LUX ALTERA and in the exergle (sic for "exergue") the milestone 1715." The tokens, as usual, are distributed by purse of 100 or 50 tokens. In 1715, 158 recipients are expected.

While the Estates of Burgundy had been regularly remonstrating with the King, particularly at the difficult end of Louis XIV's reign, here they joined in the national mourning, general sadness and concern for the future. These solemn admonitions are also illustrated by the images and captions on the tokens issued at each triennial. In 1715, Louis XIV, the Sun, died. He was succeeded by a child not yet six years old. The Regency was entrusted to the Duc d'Orléans. All that's left in the world, ORBI, is the moon, the other star, LUX ALTERA, to light the way! A play on words reinforces the sentiment, as orbi also means "orphans".

The states of Burgundy once again mark their originality with this freedom of speech not enjoyed by the other states - Brittany and Languedoc - which also distribute tokens, but where, most of the time, only the portrait of the king with his titulature (on the right) and the name and arms of the province (on the reverse) appear. The Burgundian tokens always show iconographic research translated by the greatest engravers of the time and a fine Latin erudition (the legend of 1715 is taken from the poems of Venance Fortunat, bishop of Poitiers who died in 600) which serve to praise or criticize the sovereign and illustrate the present situation in Burgundy."
