The series of regular Klondike souvenir dollars, worth one dollar during the annual Klondike Days festival in Edmonton, began in 1968 and ended in 1986, when the festival came under new management. This new management didn't allow the distribution of valid Klondike Dollars, so special medallions were issued for a few years afterward instead - they look just like Klondike Dollars, were distributed like Klondike Dollars, share the same specifications of Klondike Dollars, and during the festival people even tried to spend them like Klondike Dollars. But all text pertaining to these tokens' monetary validity had been removed and they specifically say "non-redeemable". Because they are valueless, they are medallions, not tokens.
