This medallion is part of a set of 15 commemorative medals honoring the German Presidents and Chancellors from 1949 to 2002. It was sold by MDM (Münzhandelsgesellschaft MBH Deutsche Müze) as a set containing 7 sterling silver coins for the Chancellors and 8 gold-plated sterling silver coins for the Presidents. Each set also included a German flag pin, a 22.2 g engraved sterling silver bar with the set number out of 30,000 followed by the owner's name.
