It is unclear what the token was made for. It might have been made as a toss coin. The expression “de sigaar zijn” (" to be the cigar") implies that someone has to pay if the side with the cigar was visible. A similar token was produced by the Dutch mint during the same period. That one has on one side the text “ DE PINEUT”, which basically means the same, plus the text “PROOST - SANTE”, and on the other side “JOUW BEURT VOOR EEN RONDJE” ("Your turn to pay for the drinks").
