Major event token. The sinking of the USS Maine in Havana (commissioned 1895, sunk 15 February 1898), Cuba had a direct connection to the subsequent Spanish-American War. While the cause was probably exploding coal dust, both sides blamed each other. In the US, blaming Spain won out, but accusations that the US had done it to start the war also flourished in light of the USA occupying the Philippines, etc.
