The Treasure of the Kings of France was the title of an advertising campaign launched by BP (British Petroleum) in 1968 to boost petrol sales at its service stations. This advertising campaign centered on the numismatic/petrol pairing may seem surprising today. However, it was a great success in its day, leaving an indelible mark on the minds of many children, who were forever converted to numismatics...
1 token was distributed for each tank of petrol over 20 liters. The display case held all 20 tokens, and a full-colour educational booklet was provided free of charge.
20 tokens copying the most remarkable coins in French numismatics.
Building on the success of this first advertising series, BP renewed the experiment by creating two new series, "Le Trésor des monnaies antiques" and "Le Trésor des Pirates". https://www.cgb.fr/
