Palermo Cathedral (Italian: Duomo di Palermo, Sicilian: Catidrali di Palermu), in its long form BasilicaCattedrale Met ropolitana Primazialedella Santa Vergine MariaAssunta (Met ropolitan Primatial Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary ), is a 12th-century Roman Catholic church dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption, in the Arab-Norman style typical of Sicily, located in Palermo. It is the archiepiscopal see of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Palermo.
Frederick Roger of Hohenstaufen was King of Sicily, Duke of Swabia, King of the Romans, then Emperor of the Holy German Empire (elected in 1211, crowned first in Aachen in 1215, then in Rome by the Pope in 1220) and King of Jerusalem (from 1225 by marriage, self-crowned in Jerusalem itself in 1229).
