The history of these tokens:In the 1940s and 1970s, as there was no online computerization system in the banks, the payment of checks needed to be consulted in the huge paper reports. This took some time, so the customer would hand out the check for redemption and receive a token like this and stand in the queue waiting to be called by the number engraved on the piece to receive their money.
