Comment
Used as a key tag for keys used to lock and unlock padlocks on ballot boxes. Tags were issued for each state of Australia and were used until the 1970s when other methods of collecting votes were introduced rather than using wooden boxes.
This tag is a NEW SOUTH WALES Tag referenced as Type NSW A1a (Mira NL)
The reverse is blank except for a die mark at 6 o'clock at the base of the tag. (see picture)
Hole size is 3.5 mm;
Type NSW A1b and A1c are brass and shown separately.
