Comment

This token is struck by Pichard-Balme in Saumur, a subsidiary of Arthus Bertrand since its takeover in 1999.

Construction of the current building began in the early 13th century. It is later than the cathedrals of Notre-Dame de Paris and Notre-Dame de Chartres, but earlier than the cathedrals of Notre-Dame de Strasbourg, Notre-Dame d'Amiens and Saint-Pierre de Beauvais. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, Reims Cathedral was completed in the 14th century. It was destroyed by a devastating fire during the First World War, caused by German bombing raids.
It is one of the major achievements of Gothic art in France, both for its architecture and its statuary, which includes 2,303 statues. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathédrale_Notre-Dame_de_Reims
