The Praia d'Âncora butter factory was founded in 1894 by Cannas Affonso e Cª. These tokens were used between 1894 and 1924 and acted as a record of the quantity of milk delivered by producers to the factory. Each token represented a specific amount of milk, ensuring accurate accounting and facilitating easier management of milk supplies. At each 15 days period, the tokens could be swapped by the actual payment. These tokens served multiple purposes within the dairy industry and the local economy.
