Ministerul Postelor si Telecomunicatiilor (The Romanian Ministry of Postal Services and Telecommunications, established in 1965, dissolved in 1991)) in order to meet the demand for an increasing number of long distance calls within Romania and international calls made by hoildaymakers, issued 3 types of telephone tokens, following the weight and size of the 25 bani (KM#88 and KM#94), the 1 Leu (KM#90 and KM#95) and 3 Lei (KM#91 and KM#96) coins, respectively. For practical reasons, the 22mm tokens were used for local calls, whereas the 24 mm and 27 mm tokens were used to make long distance and international calls. International calls could be made from designated phone-boxes placed in Bucharest, the Carpathian resorts (Sinaia and Predeal) and the Litoral (the holiday towns by the Black Sea). Token weights vary depending on alloy and thickness. The tokens were used for both making calls and de-jamming.
