Shooting club Policist Maribor was established in 1953 under the first name "Strelska družina "Heroj Slavko Šlander" Maribor", with first president Ivan Tavčar. 1961 local shooting range near Trdinova street in Maribor is constructed. In 1975 new organization name is established as "Strelska družina “Miličnik” Maribor" (the word "miličnik" is also one of Slovenian words describing a police man). In 1992 name changes to "Strelska družina “Policist” Maribor", and by changing of internal rules, external members (outside of Police force or jail officers) can also join the club. In 1997 another name change occurs into "Strelsko društvo “Policist” Maribor". In 2002 club takes over the leadership of the National League in shooting with a pistol and a large caliber revolver.
