P .(eter) Ballantine and Sons Brewing Company was once one of the top producers making it to number 3 in the nation. Peter Ballantine born in Scotland in November 16, 1791 – Died January 23, 1883 Emigrating to Albany, New York, USA . In 1820 forced to make the move due to poverty in Scotland. Learning the art of Brewing Beer in Albany. He was the founder of Patterson & Ballantine Brewing Company in 1830 . He left to start another Brewery in 1840 located in Newark, New Jersey. Partnered with Erastus Patterson they formed P. Ballantine and Sons Brewing Company, In 1845 cut ties with Patterson. In 1850 he moved and built a new brewery on the Passaic River. In 1957 his sons became operating partners shortly after becoming the richest man in Newark.You can find more history of the company on Wikipedia. Including when the company sold out Falstaff Brewing Corporation in 1972. With condition they continue to use same reciepies that were produced by the family. They failed to follow them and they were sued. Forcing them to sell the brand to Pabst in 1985. During that sell the original receipies were lost. Pabst with the Ballantine line is a completely an additional story.
