Comment
The legend of law is obviously an anagram of the name of Archbishop Simon de Maillé (1554-1597).Born in Brézé, Anjou, he became abbot in 1546. In this capacity, he swore allegiance to the king in 1551. He was also abbot of Beauport, and became archbishop of Tours in 1554. He shone at the Council of Trent as a convinced reformer. He resigned from Beauport Abbey in 1571, and died in retirement in 1597, aged 82. He was buried in Tours Cathedral, where miracles attested to his holiness.
