Comment
This medal belongs to a group of commemorative medals bearing on the reverse the text "Souvenir du 14 juillet" followed by a date and "Bar de Ménilmontant - Louis Delafosse". These medals appear to have been ordered by this Parisian establishment at the rate of one a year to celebrate July 14th, which became a national holiday under the Raspail law of July 6, 1880. They represent personalities of the Revolution, such as Saint-Just and Kléber, as well as the chemist and republican politician François-Vincent Raspail (1794-1878), whose son was behind the July 14th law.
