Comment
The Battle of Ayacucho [1824] was the last major armed confrontation between the land campaigns of the Spanish-American wars of independence and meant the definitive end of viceroyalties in Spanish America – WikipediaOnce the new government was established, the Peruvian constituent congress requested the minting of medals to honor important figures in the country's independence. 50 gold and 100 silver medals were minted. In addition to these, 100 silver medals were manufactured, in a round shape and without a ribbon handle, which were thrown to the people on the day of the celebration of Saint Simon, as in the time of the oaths of the Spanish kings.
