Comment

The battle of "El Roble" (the Oak) on October 17, 1813 between the patriotic forces under B. O'Higgins fought against the Spanish Royalist army at the Hacienda El Roble. During the battle Colonel O'Higgins encouraged his troops at the shout of "Lads! To me! Live with honour or die with glory! The one who is brave is the one who follows me!" (in Spanish: "¡Soldados, a mi! ¡O vivir con honor o morir con gloria! ¡El que sea valiente que me siga!").
