Louis XIII Coronation Reims 1610 France Bronze Jeton.Sacred to Reims: At the coronation of a king of France, starting from Henry III, tokens and medals were made. In his work on medals and tokens of the coronation of the Kings of France in Reims, Sombart distinguished three categories whose usefulness is diverse: first, gold, they serve for the ceremony in which the King offers 13 to the archbishop; second, medals and tokens were distributed at the exit of the king of the cathedral to the crowd on the square; third, coronation medals and tokens were made privately and were sold to commemorate the event or during the coronation or subsequently. Regarding coronations at Reims, 112 types of tokens and medals are known for kings Henry II, Francis II, Charles IX, Henry III, Louis XIII, Louis XIV, Louis XV, Louis XVI and Charles X.
