Comment

The idea of Prohibition was very popular in many areas of the United States in the mid 19th century. This medal commemorates the passage of a law banning alcoholic beverages in the state of New York, titled An Act for the Prevention of Intemperance, Pauperism, and Crime. It was passed on July 4th, 1855. This law was viewed as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, and it was struck down later that year.
