WORLD'S FASTEST STEAM LOCOMOTIVE
Comment
On 3 July 1938, this LNER locomotive of the A4 Class designed by Sir Nigel Gresley broke the world speed record for steam locomotives of 126 miles per hour. Owing to this unbeaten record, Mallard was preserved and is currently displayed at the National Railway Museum in York, where it is featured on one of four pressed penny designs. The Museum's page on Mallard: https://www.railwaymuseum.org.uk/whats-on/mallard-worlds-fastest-steam-locomotive
