Comment

Charles Tellier was a French engineer (1828, Amiens - Paris, 1913) who founded the world's first refrigeration plant for preserving meat and foodstuffs by artificial cold in Auteuil in 1869. In 1858, he created his first refrigeration machine using liquefied ammonia gas to produce cold for domestic and industrial use. This invention, which revolutionized the modern world, was constantly improved, and in 1865 he built a liquefied-gas mechanical compression machine and installed it in the factory of master chocolate-maker Menier. In 1876, the ship Frigorifique sailed from Rouen to Buenos Aires with meat in good condition after 105 days at sea.
