Comment
Private museum publicity token, 1898-1908 (c); issued by Mr T G Middlebrook and illustrating the bugle used at Balaclava, Crimean War, 1854, by Trumpet Maj Henry Joy, 17th Light Dragons (Lancers), then exhibited in the museum.T.G. Middlebrook kept the Edinburgh Castle Museum in Mornington Road, near Regent's Park, London. In January 1908 the contents of this museum were disposed of by auction by Messrs. Debenham, Store & Co.
He also collected the eggs of the extinct Great Auk (Plautus impennis). Looking at the prices he paid (which was then considerable sums) it is wondered how he made money from his free museum.
