Méreau de nécessité de la ville d' EZE (ALPES-MARITIMES - FRANCE) sous l'ancien régimeFor the town of Èze (population 3,095), whose arms bear azure, a leg bone in pale argent, supporting a phoenix rising, and between two pampers, all of the same. The pampers were originally prickly pear branches, referring to the legend that Èze was delivered from the Moors by assailants armed with fig branches. The town's motto is Moriendo renascor, meaning "In dying I am reborn". Probably a mereau from the royal period, made from locally engraved wedges.
