Villa Kérylos, in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, was built by architect Emmanuel Pontremoli between 1902 and 1908 on a rocky promontory overlooking the Mediterranean, on the seafront road.Built and furnished on the model of ancient Greek villas of the 2nd and 1st centuries BC for archaeologist and Hellenistic specialist Théodore Reinach (1860-1928), the house was bequeathed to the Institut de France in 1928.
The rich interior decoration (the spirit of the frescoes and the silhouette of the furnishings) and the austerity of the facades overlooking the sea form an example of "picturesque-academic" architecture with neo-antique and Art Nouveau tendencies1.
Precious materials were used: Carrara marble, alabaster, exotic woods and lemon. Wooden furniture is inlaid with ivory, bronze and leather. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villa_Kérylos
