Built on the site of the old Ballestras redoubt, the current water tower, 45 m high, built in 1943, whose concrete box has been transformed to become the Lighthouse of the Mediterranean, hosts for some years the convention center with at the top a rotating panoramic restaurant offering guests a 360° view.
The interior of the old water tower, in fact a simple cistern placed on the Ballestras redoubt, was demolished (keeping only the envelope) and the redoubt incarcerated in the building, deposited stone by stone, was transformed into a new building.The redoubt was rebuilt and restored by the Compagnons du Devoir on the Etang du Levant, west of the Etang du Grec, at the eastern entrance to the city.
