Comment

In the year 633, in Boulogne-sur-Mer, a ship ran aground on the sands of the harbor, with neither sails nor crew. Legend has it that, at the same moment, the Virgin Mary appeared in a chapel in the upper town. She revealed to the faithful the presence of a statue in her image on the skiff, and asked that it be brought to the site, where a new church would be built in her honor. The Boulonnais discovered a wooden statue of the Virgin and Child in the boat. Thus was born a pilgrimage to Boulogne as important in the Middle Ages as the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89glise_Notre-Dame_de_Boulogne
