This token represents Napoleon's tomb.It is carved from red quartzite blocks, placed on a Vosges green granite base, and encircled by a laurel wreath and inscriptions recalling the great victories of the Empire. In the circular gallery, a series of bas-reliefs sculpted by Simart depict the main events of the reign. At the far end of the crypt, above the slab under which the King of Rome lies, is a statue of the Emperor bearing the imperial emblems. The body of Emperor Napoleon I was laid to rest here on April 2, 1861.
