One of the oldest churches in Paris, Saint-Pierre is the only remnant of the Montmartre Abbey.Begun in 934 on the site of a Merovingian church, it was consecrated in 1147 by Pope Eugene III, and for over 6 centuries was both a parish church and a Benedictine abbey church for women. Its style is Gothic, but the nave vaults were rebuilt in the 15th century, while the three bronze doors date from 1980.
