Comment
This token represents the west façade of the Monastère Royal de Brou. The west facade is a manifesto of flamboyant architecture, its elevation evoking interior division and offering a rich inventory of unusual, irregular forms. Sculpture pervades the entire façade, and few surfaces are left bare.
The building materials used come mainly from the region: white stone from Gravelles, Ramasse and Rosiers.
(Source: http://www.culture.gouv.fr/rhone-alpes/brou/pages/plan.html) The Brou du church was built in the early 16th century at the request of Marguerite d'Autriche, the premature widow of Philibert II le Beau, to whom she wished to give a magnificent burial. Their respective tombs can be found in the choir. We can see their initials P M on the left of the token.
