Comment
Built in the first months of 1944, the Longues marine battery was equipped with four 150m² guns placed in casemates and a fire direction post built on the edge of the cliff. Thanks to the range of its guns, the battery was able to fire on the beaches of Omaha (American sector) as well as on Gold (British sector). Although heavily bombed before D-Day, it was still in a position to open fire against the invading fleet on the morning of 6 June 1944. At dawn, she engaged in a duel with several Allied cruisers before being silenced in the evening. The next day, she fell without a fight to the British troops.
