The Colossus of Rhodes was a statue of Helios (the Sun god), in bronze, whose height exceeded thirty meters, work of Chares of Lindos. Souvenir of the victorious resistance to Demetrios I Poliorcete (-305 to -304), erected on the island of Rhodes around -292, this gigantic effigy of Helios, tutelary god of the city of Rhodes, was knocked down in -227 or -226 by an earthquake. Broken at the knees, it collapsed and fell into pieces. The broken statue remained in place until 654. Not a trace of the colossus remains today. It was the sixth of the seven wonders of the ancient world.Price
