The Puy de Dôme, like all the volcanoes in the Puys chain, rests on a granite plateau (crystalline base) at just under 1,000 meters altitude. It is an ancient lava dome in the shape of a truncated cone. At its base, it is 550 metres high and two kilometers wide, and its summit reaches an altitude of 1,465 metres. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puy_de_D%C3%B4me
