he Virgin and Child is made up of three stone fragments discovered during an excavation on rue de Fürstenberg in 1999. The sculpture, probably intended to adorn the portal of the former chapel of the Virgin, was probably left unfinished due to a cutting accident and reused in the foundations of a wall. The rough-hewn nature of the crown and the features of the Virgin's face, with her head tilted slightly forward, make this work a moving and high-quality example of Parisian sculpture from the mid-13th century.
