Comment
For the 2014 vintage cupro-aluminium-nickel metal, the word "PARIS" is printed on the reverse, photo left.Jean Bart died on April 27, 1702 at around 3:30 p.m., on the eve of setting sail. A century and a half later, on September 7 and 8, 1845, Dunkirk paid tribute to its hero with the inauguration of a statue in his image, created by David d'Angers, depicting the privateer with sword in hand, the point of the weapon pointing towards England. In 1903, the statue's base was enlarged and raised. Finally, in 1983, the municipality had the coat of arms of the city of Dunkirk and the names of the 16 ships commanded by Jean Bart placed around the statue. In 2015, the statue was renovated.
