In the 12th century, Robert, son of Louis VI the Fat, King of France and Count of Dreux, granted the city of Dreux its coat of arms, chequered of gold and azure (blue) with the edge of gules (red). Later, the gules border was replaced by an oak branch in reference to the Druids, whose legends tell that they had Dreux for capital. The arms were registered in the armorial of the Generalitat of Paris on November 20, 1696. https://www.dreux.com/blason
