Comment

During the Hundred Years' War in the 14th century, the Counts of Tancarville, Jean II and Guillaume IV, were granted successive mandates by Kings Charles V and Charles VI to build the château-fort. The royal subsidies granted by these mandates from 1370 onwards were very substantial. The castle was extensively modified with new fortifications and defensive structures: the moat was enlarged, a new gate tower with a drawbridge and arrowhead was built into the surrounding wall, three large round towers were erected (the Tour des Gardes, the new keep and the Tour des Archives), and a sentry walk was built at the top of the curtain walls. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_Blandy-les-Tours
