Comment

The confrontations that followed the death of Queen Jeanne, between Louis I of Anjou and Charles de Duras, and the attacks of the barbarians ruined the town which was emptied of its population in 1388. King René, Count of Provence, gave the barony of Grimaud to the seneschal of Provence, Jean Cossa. He called upon the Genoese Raphaël de Garezzio to repopulate Saint-Tropez. He arrived with sixty families of Genoese settlers on February 14, 1470, and Jean Cossa retroceded his rights over Saint-Tropez. He declared that the inhabitants were free, frank and exempt from all taxes. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citadelle_de_Saint-Tropez
