Built in the heart of the largest enclosed forest park in Europe (around 50 km2 surrounded by a 32 km-long wall), it is the largest of the Loire castles. It boasts an ornamental garden and a hunting park that have been classified as historic monuments. Chambord is the only royal estate to have survived intact since its creation. The site originally housed a feudal motte, as well as the former château of the Counts of Blois. The origins of the present château date back to the 16th century and the reign of King François I of France, who oversaw its construction from 1519.
The château and its grounds have been awarded a number of distinctions: inclusion in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List in 1981; inclusion since 2000 in the classification zone of the Loire Valley natural region between Sully-sur-Loire and Chalonnes-sur-Loire4 and in the Natura 2000 network in 2006. It was also included in France's first list of historic monuments in 1840, has been recognized as a public industrial and commercial establishment (EPIC) since 2005, and is one of the components of the network of European royal residences. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Château_de_Chambord
