The spire, truncated by a storm that generated hurricane-force winds in the 18th century, is now topped by the gilded statue of a Virgin and Child called Notre-Dame d'Aquitaine (designed by Jean-Alexandre Chertier and installed in 1863), and houses a famous drone weighing over 8 tons. The statue of the Virgin at the top faces the village of Saint Raphaël in the Médoc commune of Avensan, where Pey Berland was born. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tour_Pey-Berland
