Biarritz's first Musée de la Mer was founded in 1871 by the Marquis Léopold de Folin2. The present Art Deco building, set against the cliffs of the Atalaye plateau, was inaugurated on August 10, 19333. It was first renovated in 1992 to house an important collection of marine animals and naturalized birds. An extension of the museum from 2009 to 2011 doubled the visitor area and considerably increased the number of tanks, to the detriment of the space reserved for naturalized birds. The Musée de la Mer's emblem is a white octopus on a blue background. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquarium_de_Biarritz
