The Batz-sur-Mer blockhouse is part of the Saint-Nazaire Festung of the Atlantic Wall, comprising over a thousand bunkers around the submarine base.
It is the command and fire direction post of the Tu 301 position. Connected to all the bunkers in the Batz-sur-Mer area, as well as to other command posts in the region, it had to transmit the coordinates of enemy ships to the rail guns for firing.
Construction began in October 1942 and was completed in February 1943. Its total surface area is 300 m2, spread over five levels.
